Street Clock Dedication Ceremony Held February 22
Officials from the Centerville-Washington Foundation, Washington Township, and the City of Centerville, gathered at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 22, to dedicate the street clock adjacent to Township Hall, 27 North Main Street in downtown Centerville.>
A project of the Centerville-Washington Foundation with support from the Sally and John Beals Fund and the city and township, the clock was installed December 15. It stands taller than 12 feet. Chimes play every quarter hour between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., in deference to the neighbors. Christmas carols played throughout the holidays.>
“The clock adds to the sense of place called for in Create the Vision, the recently completed city-township plan to guide the development of the community for the next 20 years,” said the Foundation’s project manager Richard Carr. A member of Create the Vision’s Implementation Task Force, Carr is a former Foundation president and currently serves as the secretary of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
Sally Beals, former Centerville Mayor and a founding member of the Foundation, said, "John and I are delighted that the long-awaited clock is finally in place. We hope that everyone will take time to enjoy it and that it will add to whatever festivity we are engaged in. There is a long list of patriotic songs as well as seasonal tunes that we hope will add to the occasion. I want to thank the Centerville Washington Foundation for standing by the idea and making this happen. I am sure that it will bring many memories for folks as they enjoy downtown Centerville."
A Cincinnati firm, The Verdin Company, made the clock and handled the installation.
