Foundation Awards Grants for Kids, Seniors and Readers of all Ages
Focusing on funds for kids and seniors and readers of all ages, the Foundation has awarded six grants, ranging from $500 to $1,800 to community organizations. >
"In all," said Judy Stang, vice president and chair of the grants committee, "the Foundation awarded more than $5,000 in grants in this cycle. It is the largest single grants disbursement in the Foundation's 11 year history.>
"There were nine grant requests considered by the committee in this cycle. It was also the largest number of grant requests considered by the committee at one time." Stang continued. >
The list of grants includes:>
1. $500 to the Centerville-Washington Park District for “Around the World,” a program that allows children to “visit” other countries and learn about other cultures while enlisting community volunteers to serve as guest speakers.

2. $500 to the Centerville Women’s Civic Club for scholarships to Wright State University for students from the Centerville-Washington Township area.

3. $600 to the Washington-Centerville Pubic Library to help pay travel expenses for visiting authors as part of the Library’s bicentennial celebration, “Great Books, Great Libraries,” in 2010.

4. $800 to the Washington Township Recreation Center for an Outdoor Pegasus, a musical instrument that, when combined with other selected pieces, will become an outdoor orchestra in the Child and Nature pod of the Butterfly Playground in the center’s Countryside Park.

5. $803.54 to Centerville High School’s School of Possibilities for a digital projection system that will provide clear onscreen images for the classroom, meetings and guest speakers.

6. $1,800 to Hithergreen Center toward replacement of one of the vehicles used by community volunteers to transport seniors who do not drive.

Founded in 1998, the Centerville-Washington Foundation has been highly successful in helping people through grants and in helping donors find the best ways of contributing to worthy auses. The Foundation's tag line is "Helping people help our community.">
The Foundation's grant programs have helped children, seniors, and at-risk populations, as well as provided support to local arts and humanities, conservation and environment, education, health and social service organizations.
