Foundation Awards Grant to Feed Community's Hungry Children in Summer
The Foundation has awarded a $1,000 grant to the Centerville United Methodist Church to help fund Food 4 Summer, a continuation of the community’s Food2Go program, that will feed hungry children for 13 weeks in June, July and August.
Judy Budi, president of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, announced the grant at the Foundation’s annual meeting April 19 at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace.

“There can be no higher priority for the community than to feed its hungry children. Since 2008, the Food2Go program has grown to feed as many as 140 students over weekends. Food 4 Summer continues the effort and expects to provide food to as many as 150 students a week for 13 weeks over the summer vacation,” Mrs. Budi said.
Food2Go, an all-volunteer program, is in its fourth year providing a weekend feeding program that sends food home with children who receive free and reduced cost breakfast and lunch in Centerville schools.
“But no food has been provided during the summer,” Jeanne Costales, program administrator said. “The summer feeding program, new this year, will bridge the gap between the close of schools in the spring and the opening in the fall,” she continued.
An affiliate of The Dayton Foundation, the Centerville-Washington Foundation has been highly successful in helping people through grants.
The Foundation’s grant programs have helped children, seniors, and at-risk populations, as well as provided support to local arts and humanities, conservation and environment, education, health and social service organizations.
